Tips for Gathering and Preparing Writing Materials for Your Adoption Story
This guide is meant to help you collect and organize meaningful content for your family’s adoption story. These are general suggestions — not requirements. For specific writing projects, we may also provide a questionnaire tailored to your story. This document is simply to help you start thinking and gathering.
Each story is unique, and your voice is irreplaceable. Here are some ideas to help you reflect and share.
1. 🕊️ Go Back Before the Adoption
What inspired you to consider adoption?
Were there needs in your family, or in your heart, that led to this decision?
Was there a key moment or turning point that made everything clear?
2. 📆 Remember the “Firsts”
When did you first see your child’s photo?
What was Gotcha Day like?
The first smile, first night home, first words, first trip as a family — these details bring the story to life.
3. 🌱 Stories of Growth, Struggle, and Surprise
What surprised you most in the journey?
Was there a painful lesson or a moment of unexpected grace?
Specific stories help readers connect emotionally and see your child’s humanity.
4. 🌟 What Makes My Child Special
Tell us about your child’s personality, character, and unique strengths.
How does your child see themselves?
What do friends, teachers, or family members say about them?
5. 🧧 Think Culturally
Your readers are Chinese, and they often see your child as a meaningful connection to your family.
Share your reflections on Chinese culture — whether history, customs, or food — and how it has become part of your family’s life.
What value do you see in your child reconnecting with their cultural roots or reclaiming their Chinese heritage?
How do you nurture cultural identity within your home?
6. 🌈 Dreams and Hopes
What do you hope for your child’s future?
What do you dream for your family?
How do you see their potential unfolding?
7. 📖 Inspired Biblically
We believe every adoption story is part of God's greater story — a unique and beautiful narrative written before time began.
What Bible verse has been most meaningful to your adoption journey?
How has Scripture encouraged, challenged, or comforted you through this process?
Feel free to share moments where your faith became especially real or relevant during this experience.
8. 🚧 Challenges and Needs
Be specific — physical, emotional, academic, cultural, financial, or spiritual challenges.
Talk about crises or turning points, and what you’ve learned from them.
9. 📣 What Do You Want Readers to Know?
What message do you want to share?
What action would you like readers to take, and why?
10. 🖼️ A Picture Is Worth a Thousand Words
We love photos — especially meaningful ones.
Clear, expressive images help the story feel real.
If you’re unsure which to share, send a few options and we’ll help choose.
11. 📂 Don’t Start from Scratch
Blog posts, letters, social media updates, emails — anything you’ve already shared can be valuable.
Gather what you have and send it our way.
12. ✍️ You Can Help Shape the Story
If you have a specific angle, tone, or outline in mind, please share.
Let us know how you'd like your story to be told — we’re here to listen and cocreate.
We're honored to help share your story. The more you’re able to share — in any form — the more powerfully we can tell it. Thank you for being part of Village of the Stars. Let’s write God’s story together, reflecting His perfect heart.
